A senior commander of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), identified as Abu Hassan, has reportedly been killed during a failed attack on Cross Kauwa in Borno State.
The development was disclosed in a post shared on X on Sunday by security analyst Zagazola Makama, who cited intelligence sources.
According to the report, Abu Hassan, described as one of ISWAP’s Qaids operating from the Tumbunma axis, was among the commanders who led the attack on Cross Kauwa but was killed during the confrontation.
The report also said an unidentified foreign fighter believed to be of Arab origin died during the operation.
Another ISWAP commander, Aliyi Zabarmari, who reportedly led fighters from the Tumbunma enclave, was said to have suffered a gunshot wound that resulted in a fractured thigh.
Intelligence sources further disclosed that another unidentified Arab fighter remained missing after the failed operation.
According to the report, security sources described the development as a major setback for the terrorist group, noting that those affected were key field commanders who coordinated attacks across the Lake Chad region.
In another development, GISTSMATE MEDIA reported that the troops of Operation HADIN KAI, working alongside personnel of the Nigeria Police Mobile Force (MOPOL), have foiled an attempted mass abduction by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists at the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC), Monguno, Borno State.
The military said the attack occurred at about 1:30 a.m. on Saturday when the terrorists attempted to invade the school, which is currently being used by the Borno State Government as temporary hostel accommodation for students of the Federal Polytechnic, Monguno.
In a statement on Sunday, Acting Military Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Capt. Mohammed Goni, said the terrorists reportedly gained access to the premises with the assistance of suspected collaborators in a bid to abduct the students.
He said alert security personnel immediately engaged the attackers, while troops from Sector 3 Quick Reaction Force swiftly reinforced the school, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire. READ MORE
