A 19-year-old man has been arrested while allegedly attempting to rob a person with a toy pistol in Kofar Sauri, area of Katsina.
The Command spokesman, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Katsina.
Sadiq-Aliyu said that the suspect was arrested following a report received by the police on Aug. 22 at about 7:00 p.m.
He said that the suspect was allegedly seen chasing a yet-to-be-identified person while pointing a toy pistol at the victim in an attempt to rob him.
“Consequently, in collaboration with members of the local vigilante group, police operatives swiftly responded and arrested the suspect at about 8:00 p.m. at Kofar Sauri, Katsina,” he said.
According to the spokesman, a black toy pistol was recovered from the suspect during a search.
He said the suspect was arrested for impersonation and attempted robbery.
He said that the suspect was currently in police custody while investigation continued.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ali Umar-Fage, commended members of the community and the local vigilante group for their vigilance and cooperation.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
The commissioner said that sustained collaboration between security agencies and members of the public was vital to tackling crime and criminality in the state.
