President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians to continue praying for terrorists and bandits to have a rethink and abandon their evil ways as security agencies intensify efforts to restore peace across the country.
He made the remark on Thursday, May 28, 2026, during a meeting with security chiefs and traditional leaders at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where discussions centred on the worsening cases of terrorism, kidnapping and banditry in parts of the country.
The President said his administration remains committed to tackling insecurity through sustained military operations, intelligence gathering and improved collaboration among security agencies.
He, however, stressed that spiritual support and collective national effort were also necessary in overcoming the security challenges facing the nation.
Tinubu said, “Nigeria should pray that terrorists and bandits will have a rethink and abandon their evil ways. We are determined to secure this country, protect lives and ensure that every Nigerian can live without fear.”
The President also appealed to citizens to support security operatives with useful information, warning that criminal elements thrive when communities remain silent.
He assured Nigerians that the Federal Government would continue investing in modern security equipment and strategies aimed at ending insurgency and banditry.
In another development, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has charged troops of the Joint Task Force North Central (JTF-NC), Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD (OPSS), to intensify ongoing operations aimed at decisively routing kidnappers, bandits and other criminal elements threatening peace and security within the joint operations area.
According to a statement made available to Defence Correspondents in Abuja on Thursday by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the COAS gave the directive while addressing troops at Sobi Barracks, Ilorin, Kwara State, during his maiden operational visit to the Headquarters, JTF North Central OPSS.
The statement explained that General Shaibu emphasised that the Nigerian Army remained resolute in its constitutional responsibility of safeguarding lives and property, stressing that troops had sustained operational momentum aimed at decisively denying criminal elements the freedom to terrorise innocent citizens, infiltrate communities or undermine national security.
