Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, has warned staff of the commission against the manipulation of election results.
He gave the warning on Wednesday while addressing staff of the commission in Ado-Ekiti as part of preparation for the Ekiti State Governorship elections.
Amupitan, who also cautioned them against activities that will undermine the credibility of the electoral process in the country, said there will be consequences for actions that compromise the credibility of elections.
The INEC boss, who called the attention of the staff to the provisions of the law regarding the role of electoral officers in the conduct of election, assured that the commission will reward those who perform creditably well during the governorship election.
Prof. Amupitan told the staff, especially the Electoral Officers that the world expect 105 percent performance from the Commission, adding that the Ekiti Governorship elections will serve as a litmus test for the 2027 general elections.
He reminded them of the need to maintain a high integrity before, during and after the elections, while.also maintaining the integrity of the electoral process.
Professor Amupitan assured that the commission was closely monitoring the staff, assuming that those who distinguished themselves will be handsomely rewarded including double promotion where necessary as a sign of encouragement.
He also assured the staff that their welfare was paramount to the commission, while saying that the management was working on ensuring an improved salary structure for the workers across the country.
He, however, told them that the resources currently available to the commission was not enough to give them the type of welfare package they deserve as it still operates under the envelope system of budgeting despite being captured on the first line charge by the commission.
