I’ll Never Deny Being A ‘Nepo Baby – Temi Otedola

Actress and media personality Temi Otedola revealed that she has no problem admitting to being a “nepo baby,” arguing that owning up to privilege does not invalidate hard work.

On a recent episode of The How Far Podcast with her husband Mr Eazi, Temi spoke about privilege and nepotism.

She explained that privilege goes beyond celebrity, adding that, it means growing up in a home with financial security, good education, met basic needs, and a stable foundation that many people don’t have.

Temi also defined nepotism, especially in entertainment, as getting access through family ties.

“So this is my take on it. You don’t have to be famous to be privileged. I feel like privilege is purely growing up in a circumstance where your parents made a certain amount of money, you didn’t have to struggle, and you had access to education, food and a foundation in life that not everybody gets,” she said.

She gave the example of them being parents and linking their child to a producer or funding a music video, opportunities not everyone gets.

“If our kid wanted to be an artist, you would introduce them to a producer and you would do their music video. That is an unfair advantage. That is nepotism,” she said.

As the daughter of billionaire businessman Femi Otedola, Temi said she doesn’t understand why people shy away from acknowledging the advantages they had.

She stressed that admitting privilege doesn’t cancel out personal effort.

“You can never catch me, on camera or off camera, saying I’m not a nepo baby. I find it crazy when people don’t admit to be advantaged. It would be so unfair to say that,” she said.

According to her, she was given a head start and she has worked to make the most of it.

“At the end of the day, I was given a leg up and I’ve made the most of it. I don’t know why it’s so hard for people to say that. I think it’s because they feel it discounts what they’ve achieved in life”, she added.

Mr Eazi agreed, noting that he too benefited from privileges made possible by work done before him.

“I definitely got lots of privileges as a result of the hard work that came before me,” Mr Eazi added.
