The Nigeria Police Force has taken a bold step in its reform drive, as Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, orders a major overhaul of the Police Monitoring Unit.
A statement by the Force says the move is aimed at tightening discipline and boosting accountability.
The IGP has approved a comprehensive restructuring of the Unit to enhance operational efficiency and strengthen internal oversight.
The revamped structure will focus on proactive monitoring, intelligence-driven inspections, and real-time supervision of police activities across the country.
As part of the shake-up, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Abubakar, has been appointed to head the restructured Monitoring Unit.
The IGP said the reform is designed to reinforce professionalism, ensure transparency, and strengthen discipline within the Force.
He added that the Monitoring Unit will now play a central role in identifying operational lapses and enforcing standards nationwide.
