Idol-free Palaces Greater Than Mosques, Churches – Osun Monarch, Oluwo

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has declared that palaces free of idols are greater than mosques, churches and shrines, describing them as the true stools of God on earth.

The monarch said traditional rulers were physical representatives of God, arguing that palaces without idols possessed greater divine authority than places of worship.

Oba Akanbi made the declaration in a statement issued on Wednesday by his Press Secretary, Alli Ibraheem, while condemning the presence of idols in the palaces of traditional rulers.

The monarch described kings who promoted idols in their palaces as ignorant of their true position and called for a holistic approach to kingship.

He also advocated the restoration of the glory of kingship by correcting what he described as the mistakes of forefathers who shared God’s exclusive right with deities.

According to the statement, the Oluwo said he was enthroned to teach Yoruba kings how the traditional stool should be conducted.

“This revelation did not come in the time of our forefathers. Palaces, most especially Yoruba palaces without idols, are greater than Mosque, Church and Shrine.

“Palace is not a shrine where deities are kept. Olodumare is sending me to all kings to deliver the message, and he equipped me with all paraphernalia of the office to weather any storm.

“Palace is a place where everybody should go for divine commandment. It is the stool of God on earth. There will be many mosques, churches and shrines in a town, but there can only be one palace. Which one will command more respect either to be closer to God or deities? You have to choose between Olodumare and your fathers. Take deities to shrine, not palace.”

Oluwo maintained that anyone who opposed idol-free palaces would eventually meet his or her “waterloo”, insisting that pure kingship was more spiritual than many people realised.

“You go to Mosques, Churches and shrines to pray, but divine commandment is in the palace of Olodumare. When they bow to you as a king, you should return the glory to the real King because you are not the real King. Earthly kings are guardians, custodians and defenders of the throne of Olodumare. As such, palace should never be turned into a shrine where deities are kept.

“Any palace dedicated to Olodumare without deity worshipping is bigger than the houses of God (Churches and Mosques). It is sad that most Yoruba kings are ignorant of their position. My question is, are you the real unquestionable? It is an unforgiven offence to give God’s credit to man,” he added.

However, the monarch clarified that he was not asking traditional rulers to destroy or discard their deities, but to remove them from the palaces.

“Deities and idols are part of your history. Oluwo is not telling you to throw them away. You can take them to the shrine or community museum of natural history. If white men can take your deity overseas and keep it in a museum for years, you can as well keep it in a museum here. It’s a desecration of the crown for a king to harbour idols in his palace,” he said.
