Legislative Arm of Government has been one of the most powerful organs of the Three Arms we have in Nigeria’s Democratic System of Government.

Laws of every nation are made by the Lawmakers who are usually elected at the polls by the citizens. The legislative arm of government is the institution charged with the responsibility of making laws and perform oversight functions in Nigeria.

*Cheta Nwaze wrote* :

‘The National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is a bicameral legislature established under section 4 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which comprises both the Senate and the House of Representatives. It consists of a Senate with 109 members and a 360-member House of Representatives. The Nigerian National Assembly is modelled after the Federal Congress of the United States, is supposed to guarantee equal representation of the 36 states irrespective of size in the Senate and proportional representation of population in the House’

‘The importance of voting competent legislators is that first they will be accountable to the constituents who voted them to office, and try to make a difference in their communities. We have witnessed several incidents in the country, where serving senators that have been stoned or attacked because of they failed to have a concrete impact on their constituency and the nation as a whole. If they were competent legislators such incidents will never occur’

‘They are simply described as the law makers. The legislative arm of government also serves as a checks and balance for the Executive arm of government. Before any bill may become law, it must be agreed to by both the House and the Senate, and receive the President’s assent. Should the President delay or refuse assent (veto) the bill, the Assembly may pass the law by two-thirds of both chambers and overrule the veto and the President’s consent will not be required. The present Assembly has not hidden its preparedness to overrule the executive where they disagree’

‘Each of the 36 states have their own State House of Assembly, established by Section 90 of the 1999 Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), and endowed with powers to legislate, as well as privileges and immunities to enable them to exercise these powers without hindrance. The Constitution provides that each State House of Assembly must have no less than twenty-four (24), and no more than forty (40) members’

‘A member of the House of Representatives Garba Hamman Julde was attacked by some angry people from his constituency in Taraba on Saturday, March 31. The attack occurred on Saturday, March 31, 2018 as the lawmaker presented gifts to some APC executives in Bali local government. The lawmaker was injured in the attack before he was carted away to safety by security operatives. The angry constituents accused the federal lawmaker of abandoning them for years only to show up just before elections’

With this short analysis of a competency legislator, Cheta Nwaze has clearly enlighten us, the needs to be by choosing a credible and competent legislator, many factors are considered to put in place, yet but the most essential criteria we must all look into is by starting from election, i mean by winning an election, you and I knows what it takes to win an election regardless community standards and party anonymity.

We need to select a candidate of high background, rich profile and party loyalist who will by far has a very good grade in all these factors before others follow.

It’s a pity, nowadays, we don’t choose the Best candidate to represent us at the helms of affairs anymore, we only go after money and all sorts of material gains. I am not saying monetary aspect won’t be involved, but it will reach a certain stage, humanity and background are so important to choose a representative irrespective of any platform or party, a candidate to win a legislative seat must have a bit knowledge of law, must have hailed from humble home and has all powers to be, we can’t just go into a selection where we will fail at the end.

With all these, I’m most sure that Adekunle Oladeji meets up by all standards, he has a legislative experience, wide enough to beautify Ibadan North FC once more, very smart and intelligent.
I have said this many times in my area, with facts, the Opposition Parties are scared of Adekunle Oladeji, while we called him the SUPREMO OF IBADAN NORTH LG.

Dear Constituents, Leaders and Elders fora, I strongly believe you can’t seat and watch our Constituency lagging behind, this is the high time we went out, sensitized the younger ones, evangelized the needs that be, the power that be, the reason why our Constituency must lead, the seat shouldn’t be vacant for a while, let’s rise. I’m unapologetically BAOist and I will, because I will always wish my Constituency better and better more.

Bashorun Adekunle Oladeji OMO BAO, here we go.
