I Will Abolish JAMB, Scrap NYSC As Nigerian President – Sowore

The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, Omoyele Sowore, has vowed to abolish the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, if he becomes the President of Nigeria.

Sowore said institutions of higher learning should decide admissions through a merit based system.

Posting on X, the activist politician also vowed to scrap the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC,

Sowore said he would establish a two-year, voluntary National Job Corps in place of NYSC.

He said: “When I become President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria: @JAMBHQ will be abolished.

“Admission into tertiary institutions should be determined by the institutions themselves under a transparent, merit-based system, not by another layer of bureaucracy.

“The National Youth Service Corps @nysc_ng, in its current form, will be scrapped. In its place, we will establish a two-year, voluntary National Job Corps that guarantees participants meaningful employment, practical skills, entrepreneurship support, and pathways into permanent careers.

“Nigeria’s young people do not need more compulsory schemes. They need opportunities, jobs, skills, and the freedom to choose their future.”

In another development, GISTSMATE MEDIA reports that Sowore has narrated his ordeal during his recent incarceration in Kuje correctional facility.

Mr Sowore was granted N200 million bail on Tuesday by Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court, Abuja Division.

Justice Umar, in his ruling, ordered Mr Sowore to produce two sureties. One must be a traditional ruler from his community, while the other must own landed property in Abuja.

In a statement to the Peoples Gazette on Wednesday, Mr Sowore said, “I was incarcerated alongside more than 1,158 inmates, including 37 undergoing treatment for tuberculosis.”

Describing the prison as “overcrowded,” the African Action Congress presidential candidate insisted that no one should be jailed for merely exercising their constitutionally protected rights. READ MORE
