The Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa, has refuted allegations of taking hard drugs or pills over his blue tongue.
In a picture which has gone viral on social media, the lawmaker representing Doguwa/Tudun Wada tongue was captured in blue colour.
But addressing the incident where he was mocked for having a lozenge stuck to his tongue and looking as if he had taken illicit drug, the prominent lawmaker said the rumours must have been spread by his enemies in politics.
He explained that his voice was strained during a meeting, so he sent an aide to buy a Tom-Tom (a popular menthol and eucalyptus candy in Nigeria) to soothe his throat.
The aide mistakenly bought a different, stickier type of sweet. After consuming it, the sweet adhered to his tongue, which made him look awkward and led onlookers to unfairly assume he was on drugs.
He said, “I sent a boy to get me a tom-tom because my voice was broken at the meeting, so the boy I sent bought me a different type.
“After taking it, it stuck to my tongue. Now, people are looking at me as if I had taken drugs, even though I have never taken drugs in my life.’
