The organisers of the Nigeria Spelling Bee have opened registration for the next edition of the national competition, inviting parents and schools to register eligible pupils and students for a chance to compete for scholarships, cash prizes and the opportunity to represent Nigeria internationally.
This was disclosed by the organisers on the official Nigeria Spelling Bee registration portal.
According to the organisers, registration is open to both individual participants and school groups.
“Get ready to embark on an exciting journey of language and literacy excellence. Whether you’re registering as a student or a school group, this is the first step toward showcasing your spelling skills on a national stage,” the organisers said.
They added, “Complete the registration form from the links below to secure your spot in the competition and get closer to winning amazing prizes, including scholarships and the chance to represent Nigeria at the African Spelling Bee.”
Eligibility
The organisers urged parents and schools to ensure participants meet the competition’s eligibility requirements before registering.
“Before proceeding with your registration, please ensure that you (or your students) meet all the eligibility requirements for the Nigeria Spelling Bee,” the statement read.
“To avoid disqualification, we encourage you to review the Eligibility Page thoroughly before completing your registration.”
Registration fee
The registration fee is ₦5,000 per speller.
Payments can be made through bank deposits, transfers, ATMs or approved gift vouchers – https://www.nigeriaspellingbee.com/register/
Applicants were also advised to retain proof of payment.
“Keep your deposit slip safe, as you will need it for the online registration form and to present on the competition day,” the organisers stated.
They also cautioned participants against exposing their payment details.
“Ensure your payment details are secure. Nigeria Spelling Bee is not responsible for any issues arising from sharing or exposing your payment information,” the organisers said.
The organisers added that late or venue registration, where permitted, would attract an additional ₦1,000, bringing the total registration fee to ₦6,000 per participant.
Registration process
After payment, participants are required to register individually through the designated online portal.
The organisers explained, “Each speller must be registered separately.”
They added that every successful applicant would receive a unique identification number.
“After registering, each speller will receive a Unique Speller-ID. This ID will be used to identify them during the competition.”
Participants are also expected to present their confirmation slips and proof of payment at the competition venue.
Prizes
According to the organisers, winners will receive scholarships, cash rewards and international opportunities.
The National Champion in the Senior category will receive a ₦1 million scholarship, while the Junior category champion will receive a ₦500,000 scholarship.
The Primary category winner will receive ₦150,000 cash.
In addition, all finalists will qualify to represent Nigeria at the African Spelling Bee, while national champions will become Nigeria Spelling Bee ambassadors for life and receive trophies and medals.
Opportunity for schools
The organisers also invited schools interested in hosting the competition to submit applications.
“Your school may apply to host the Competition in its premises,” they said.
They added that schools registering more than 10 participants could contact the organisers for information on available bulk registration discounts.
The organisers reminded applicants that registration must be completed online before participants can receive their Speller IDs and competition materials, stressing that payments are non-refundable.
