The Abia State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old man for allegedly robbing members of the public using a stainless lighter designed to resemble a pistol.
According to a statement by the force Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka on Saturday, the a native of Obinolu Ngodo Isiochi was apprehended on July 5, 2026, by operatives of the Isuochi Divisional Police Headquarters following actionable intelligence reports.
“The suspect is known to be habitually robbing unsuspecting members of the public using a stainless lighter designed to resemble a pistol, thereby instilling fear in his victims and dispossessing them of their belongings.
“During his arrest, other related items were recovered from his possession,” the statement read.
The command further advised members of the public to report any security concerns to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines.
In another development, GISTSMATE MEDIA reports the Benue State Police Command has arrested seven additional suspects in connection with the killing of the state Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Risku Mohammed.
The state MACBAN chairman was killed on June 26 by gunmen after attending a peace meeting in Ohinmini Local Government Area of the state.
Risku Mohammed and his friend, Yakubu Isah, were killed around Okukwu in Otukpo Local Government Area while returning home after what was described as a fruitful peace meeting.
Three days later, the spokesperson for the command, DSP Udeme Edet, announced the arrest of 10 suspects in connection with the killing of the state MACBAN chairman. READ MOREÂ
