Gunmen attacked members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, during a grassroots mobilisation meeting in Obuoffia Ward, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 3:40 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2026, during a voter sensitisation meeting organised by the party.
One person was reportedly shot during the attack, while party members and other attendees fled the scene in panic.
A video from the incident shows the meeting venue moments before the attack, with attendees seated at the gathering.
The video also captured the moment gunshots were fired, causing those at the venue to disperse and run for safety.
Further details on the condition of the person reportedly shot and the circumstances surrounding the attack are yet to be known.
In another development, GISTSMATE MEDIA reports that six Juma’at Imams have been abducted by suspected bandits while travelling to Talata Mafara, Zamfara State, to attend a special prayer session organised for peace and the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
The clerics were abducted about three kilometres from Damri village, at a place called Gidan Suleiman Bature in Gonar Sarkin Forest, while on their way to the prayer session organised by the Director-General of the Tinubu 2027 re-election campaign council and former Zamfara State governor, Senator Abdul’aziz Yari Abubakar.
The event was expected to bring together 2,933 Imams for special prayers.
A resident of one of the affected communities, who spoke to Daily Trust on condition of anonymity, said the clerics were abducted while responding to Yari’s invitation. READ MORE
