Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has questioned President Bola Tinubu’s capacity to lead Nigeria, calling for him to leave office in 2027 over concerns about his energy and leadership.
Speaking in Abuja at the inauguration of the NDC National Campaign Council, the former Anambra State governor said Nigeria needed a president who would be physically present and actively address the country’s economic and security challenges.
“Above all, President Tinubu does not have the energy and resolve required to lead Nigeria today, and he must go home.”
“We need him to go home. Nigeria cannot be governed with the energy he has today. Nigeria needs a president who will be available and present,” Obi said.
He accused the APC-led administration of worsening poverty, unemployment, corruption and insecurity, adding that Tinubu should explain his achievements and spending before seeking another term.
His comments followed Tinubu’s announcement that he would not attend every campaign rally ahead of the 2027 election, citing the need to focus on governance and national obligations, including debt payments.

Pledging a different approach, Obi said governance should focus on solutions rather than blame and promised an aggressive fight against corruption.
“The purpose of governance is to solve problems, not to blame people. I will not blame anybody. We will create that new Nigeria that is possible,” he said.
