The Akwa Ibom State Police Command in an early-morning clearance operation across Ikono, Ini and Obot Akara LGAs, arrested six suspected members and associates of an armed robbery network believed to be involved in the theft and disposal of motorcycles and other valuables.
According to the command, among those arrested is a suspected native doctor alleged to have been providing charms to members of the gang, while another suspect is alleged to specialise in producing fake receipts used to facilitate the sale of suspected stolen motorcycles.
Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, commended the operatives for their courage, professionalism and sustained commitment to intelligence-led policing.
He also directed that the investigation be intensified to recover more stolen property, establish the individual roles of the suspects and apprehend other members or collaborators still at large.
“Akwa Ibom Police Command remains resolute: criminal hideouts will not be safe havens. We will find you, we will disrupt your networks, and we will bring offenders to justice”.
Items recovered from the suspects include 2 single-barrel shotguns, 3 laptops, 1 suspected stolen Qlink motorcycle, Local charms and fetish materials.
In another development, GISTSMATE MEDIA reports that a man identified as Alhaji Ibrahim has allegedly devised a disturbing scheme to extort money and valuables from families of people abducted by bandits by falsely claiming that their relatives are in his custody.
In a video posted online by conflict reporter, Bakatsine, Ibrahim was seen sitting on the floor while being interrogated in Hausa about how he allegedly contacted relatives of abducted persons and demanded ransom from them.
During the interrogation, Ibrahim admitted that he contacted a man identified as Isiya and told him that a relative had been abducted and was in their custody. READ MORE
