A man, Daniel Amaso, has been sentenced to life in prison by a Bayelsa State high court sitting in Yenagoa for raping a 17-year-old pre-degree student of the state-owned Niger Delta University in Amassoma.
The convict was arraigned for forcefully entering the 17-year-old apartment in Amassoma community, Southern Ijaw LGA, with a knife.
He was said to have raped her under duress and robbed her of her phone afterwards.
Amaso was charged with rape, armed robbery and causing grievous harm before Hon. Justice Christine Kombo-Enegesi.
Daniel was consequently found guilty on the three counts on Monday and sentenced to life imprisonment for the offences of rape and armed robbery and 7 years for the offence of inflicting grievous harm.
