A Toyota Land Cruiser belonging to a politician and businessman, Prince Tony Idikwu, was reportedly stolen by armed men in Abuja’s Lokogoma area over the weekend.
The incident was said to have occurred around 5:12 p.m. on Saturday while the vehicle, bearing the personalised registration number “IPINU 1”, was being test-driven following repairs.
Sources familiar with the development told our correspondent that the mechanic handling the vehicle was driving it within the Lokogoma axis when he was intercepted by unidentified individuals.
The assailants reportedly forced the mechanic to stop before taking possession of the sport utility vehicle and fleeing from the scene.
Idikwu is the Accord Party’s aspirant for the Oju/Obi Federal Constituency seat in Benue State ahead of the 2027 general elections. He is also the Chief Executive Officer of AID Global Resources Limited.
Residents said the politician is known for his philanthropic activities and community development initiatives.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, said the command had yet to receive any official complaint regarding the alleged vehicle theft.
She advised the owner or any affected party to report the matter at the nearest police station to enable the commencement of an investigation.
The police spokesperson added that prompt reporting of such incidents would assist security agencies in tracking the vehicle and identifying those responsible.
