A 60-year-old man has died suddenly after checking into a hotel with a 20-year-old woman in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, with the police recovering a suspected sexual enhancement substance from the room as part of an ongoing investigation.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, has prompted the Jigawa State Police Command to launch a full-scale investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu, the deceased, whose identity was withheld, checked into the hotel alongside the 20-year-old lady, also unnamed, before the tragic incident unfolded.
Shiisu said the man reportedly developed a medical emergency shortly after requesting a meal while inside the hotel room.
Following a distress call, police officers attached to the Yalwawa Division swiftly responded to the scene and evacuated the victim to the General Hospital, Dutse, where medical personnel examined him and confirmed him dead.
The police spokesperson disclosed that detectives secured the hotel room and carried out a preliminary examination, during which several items were recovered as exhibits.
He said the items included food, beverages, a suspected sexual enhancement substance, and other personal belongings, all of which have been taken for further examination as investigators work to establish the cause of the man’s sudden death.
According to Shiisu, all necessary procedures were followed to preserve the recovered exhibits and ensure a thorough investigation.
He added that after medical authorities certified the death and police completed the required procedures, the deceased’s remains were released to his family for burial in line with their request.
The police also revealed that the 20-year-old woman who was with the deceased at the time of the incident has been cooperating with investigators and has provided useful information to assist in reconstructing the events leading to the man’s death.
Shiisu assured residents that the investigation would be conducted professionally, thoroughly and impartially.
He urged members of the public to avoid speculation or the circulation of unverified information that could create unnecessary panic or compromise the investigation.
“Further information will be made available as the investigation progresses,” the police spokesperson said.
