At least four Ugandan boxers are currently unaccounted for after failing to return home following their participation in the 2026 Commonwealth Games (CWG) in Glasgow, Scotland.
According to the BBC, the four missing Ugandan boxers are Nuhu Batte, Angel Katushabe, Ibrahim Kemis and Emily Nakalema.
One of the missing athletes had told a Ugandan news outlet that they intended to seek asylum in Scotland.
Similarly, Qudratullah, a Pakistani boxer, also failed to join the rest of his teammates in flying back to his home country and was discovered missing after officials searched his room.
The Scottish police said it has received reports about the missing athletes and investigations are ongoing.
“Police Scotland has received reports of several athletes who are unaccounted for,” the authorities say.
“Inquiries are ongoing to assess the circumstances, and early engagement is taking place with the Home Office.”
The 2026 CWG wrapped up on August 2, with several other countries and their athletes expected to return to their respective homes.
Nigeria also participated in the Games, finishing seventh on the final medal table with 24 laurels.
The report about missing athletes at the CWG comes a few weeks after 20 Ethiopian youth players and officials absconded after participating at the 2026 Gothia Cup in Sweden.
