A teenager is facing multiple charges after she used an AI-altered image to frame her ex-boyfriend for a school shooting threat, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office announced.
Deputies responded to Riverview High School on October 14, after administrators received an email containing a screenshot of an Instagram post threatening a shooting at the school.
According to HCSO, the post appeared to come from a male student at the school.

Detectives contacted the teen, and she admitted to sending the email, knowing the image had been altered using AI, HCSO said.
“Threatening a school is a felony in Hillsborough County and it doesn’t matter if it’s a joke, it doesn’t matter if it’s from AI, it doesn’t matter if you’re mad, and it doesn’t matter if you’re trying to pin it on someone else. You’re going to face the consequences,” Granit said.
