FLASH: Presidential Candidate Quits Race, Backs Tinubu For 2027

The Accord Party’s 2027 presidential candidate, Prof. Christopher Imumolen, has withdrawn from the presidential race and endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term, saying his decision was driven by the need to put Nigeria’s unity and long-term development above personal ambition.

Imumolen announced his withdrawal in a statement issued on Wednesday, explaining that the decision followed extensive consultations with political associates, party leaders and supporters across the country.

According to him, stepping out of the race was a difficult choice but one he considered necessary after assessing the nation’s current political and economic realities.Executive Branch

He said Nigeria has reached a critical point where political leaders must embrace cooperation and collective responsibility instead of deepening divisions through partisan contests.

The former Accord Party flagbearer argued that President Tinubu’s administration had initiated key reforms aimed at repositioning the economy and strengthening national institutions, adding that sustaining those policies would give them the opportunity to deliver their intended benefits.

Declaring his support for the President’s re-election bid, Imumolen said the endorsement should not be interpreted as an act of weakness or political surrender but as a conscious sacrifice in the interest of national stability.

“I have decided to withdraw from the presidential race and throw my full support behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election,” he said.

He urged members of the Accord Party, his supporters and Nigerians to rally behind Tinubu’s re-election campaign, insisting that the country’s overall progress must take precedence over partisan interests.

Imumolen also called on politicians across party lines to embrace issue-based politics focused on economic growth, national security and social development rather than divisive political battles.

He maintained that history would ultimately remember leaders not for the offices they occupied but for the sacrifices they made in advancing Nigeria’s unity and progress.
