The Peoples Democratic Party has announced the postponement of its 103rd National Executive Committee meeting, earlier scheduled for Wednesday (today), citing recent developments within the party.
In a statement by its spokesman, Debo Ologunagba, the National Working Committee said the decision was taken during an emergency meeting held on Monday in line with Section 29(2)(b) of the party’s Constitution (as amended in 2017).
It said a new date for the NEC meeting will be announced in due course.
The sudden postponement came amid defections of members to the ruling All Progressives Congress, raising concerns about the opposition party’s strength to contest elections in 2027.
Meanwhile, Governor Seyi Makinde urged members not to lose hope in the party despite recent defections, noting its current challenges are only temporary.
The governor, who made this statement during the inauguration of the PDP National Convention Transportation Subcommittee in Abuja, said the party’s current situation would better prepare it for future electoral victories.

“From when the 34 wise men came together to put democracy on the map for this country, at the beginning of this republic in 1999, PDP has always been a constant factor, either as a ruling party or the main opposition party since 2015,” Mr Makinde said on Monday.
