FLASH: Former Power Minister Saleh Mamman Declared Wanted

Former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, has been declared wanted after an FCT High Court in Maitama revoked his bail and issued a bench warrant for his arrest over alleged 31 billion naira fraud.

Justice Maryann Anineh gave the order on Monday following Mamman’s absence in court without explanation during his ongoing trial by the EFCC on charges bordering on conspiracy, obtaining by false pretence, and intent to defraud.

The EFCC said Mamman has been missing since May 7, 2026, when he was convicted by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court on a separate 12-count money laundering charge involving N33.8 billion.

Prosecution counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, urged the court to revoke the former minister’s bail and continue proceedings in his absence, citing provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.

Justice Anineh granted the request, ordered Mamman’s arrest, and ruled that the trial would continue despite his absence.

The case was adjourned to May 14th, 2026, for continuation of trial.

GISTSMATE MEDIA reported that the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja last week Thursday convicted Mamman of 12 counts of fraud and money laundering, charges preferred against him by the EFCC.

The court, in a judgment delivered by Justice James Omotosho, said it was satisfied that the anti-graft agency had successfully established the former Minister’s culpability beyond reasonable doubt.

The court convicted him on all grounds of the charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/273/2024.

Mamman, who served in the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, was found complicit in the illegal diversion of public funds totalling about ₦33.8 billion.

The court found that he made a cash payment of $655,700 (equivalent to ₦200 million) for landed property in Abuja, without recourse to a financial institution.

He was also found guilty of criminal breach of trust in relation to funds released by the federal government for the Mambilla and Zungeru Hydroelectric Power Plant projects.
