GISTSMATE MEDIA reports that Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has excluded the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, from the final list of candidates released for the 2027 Kano State governorship election.
According to reports published on October 10, 2026, Gwarzo’s name is completely missing from the official list published on INEC’s official website.
While INEC has not released a specific, individualized statement for Gwarzo’s omission, the commission previously warned that political parties failing to comply with mandatory membership-register requirements would not be allowed to field affected candidates.
Under Section 32(2) of the Electoral Act 2026, the NDC has a 14-day window to officially notify INEC in writing, accompanied by an affidavit, to challenge or rectify the missing nomination.
The exclusion introduces a major twist into what observers call one of Nigeria’s hottest political battlegrounds.
Gwarzo, the immediate past Deputy Governor of Kano State, had recently solidified his campaign by picking Mustapha Kwankwasoโthe son of the NDC’s vice-presidential candidate and Kwankwasiyya leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwasoโas his running mate.
