The African Democratic Congress has suspended the collation of its presidential primary election results.
Announcing the postponement late Tuesday, Ikechi Emenike, chairman of the Presidential Primary Election Committee, said the decision would allow Muslim party members to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir.
Mr Emenike said collation for the remaining states would commence at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday (today), explaining that some returning officers in the affected states had flight challenges getting to Abuja.
“We are postponing the collation to allow our brothers and sisters to celebrate sallah, participate in the religious activity and to enable returning officers who had flight challenges to arrive Abuja later today,” Mr Emenike stated.
Results from 24 states and the FCT had already been announced by various state returning officers, with the remaining 12 states (Borno, Kebbi, Anambra, Abia, Ekiti, Ondo, Gombe, Oyo, Imo, Yobe, Nasarawa, Enugu, Benue, Osun, Adamawa, Kogi, Kano, Akwa Ibom, Ebonyi, Niger, Plateau, Sokoto, Taraba, Zamfara and the FCT) announced before the postponement.
GISTSMATE MEDIA reported that both Rotimi Amaechi and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen has pulled out of the race even before final announcement of the winner.
Amaechi, a former Minister of Transportation rejected the outcome of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary election.
The former Rivers State Governor raised heavy allegations of widespread voter disenfranchisement and severe electoral malpractice during the exercise.
In a statement released on his official X handle on Tuesday following the primary, Amaechi described the figures being declared by the party leadership as “concocted” and insisted he would not accept any outcome that lacked fairness and transparency.
Hayatu-Deen pulled out of the party’s presidential primary process, alleging widespread vote rigging across the country.
In a post on his X handle, the former banker said he was concerned by reports from different states, adding that some of the alleged irregularities were personally observed by him.
“I will not be attending the announcement of the ADC Presidential Election Results today,” he said.
