FCT Teachers’ Strike: NANS Issues 72-Hour Ultimatum To Wike, Threatens Total Shutdown Protest

The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), FCT Chapter, expresses grave outrage, deep dissatisfaction, and total loss of confidence in the administration of the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

It is now evident that under his leadership, the education sector in the FCT has not only been neglected but has completely collapsed, as demonstrated by the ongoing indefinite strike by primary and secondary school teachers across the FCT, which has shut down public schools and disrupted academic activities.

This is unacceptable, disgraceful, and a direct contradiction to the promise made by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who assured Nigerians of uninterrupted academic calendars across all levels of education, including primary and secondary schools.

The recurrence of this strike for the second time in the FCT is nothing short of a national embarrassment and a slap on the Renewed Hope Agenda of the present administration. It raises a fundamental question:
What exactly is the Minister of the FCT doing?

While billions are being channeled into physical infrastructure, the human capital that sustains that infrastructure is being abandoned. Today:

* Public primary and secondary schools are shut down due to unresolved teachers’ welfare issues.

* Teachers are on indefinite strike over unpaid entitlements and failure of the FCT Administration to implement agreed commitments.

* Students are forced out of classrooms into uncertainty and frustration.

* The education system in the nation’s capital is rapidly deteriorating.

This is a clear failure of leadership, and NANS can no longer remain silent while the future of Nigerian students is being jeopardized.

OUR DEMANDS:

* Immediate resolution of the ongoing teachers’ strike and full implementation of all agreements with teachers.

* Immediate payment of all outstanding salaries, arrears, and entitlements owed to teachers.

* Clear and actionable timeline for the take-off of Abuja University of Technology, Abaji.

* Emergency intervention and revitalization of all educational institutions within the FCT.

NOTICE OF ACTION (FINAL WARNING):

NANS FCT Chapter hereby issues a 72-HOUR ULTIMATUM to the FCT Administration and the Honourable Minister, Nyesom Wike.
Failure to meet these demands within 72 hours will leave Nigerian students with no option but to:

* Embark on a total shutdown of the Federal Capital Territory, and

* Commence an indefinite mass occupation of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Headquarters.

* We will relocate our struggle to the gates of the FCTA, and we shall remain there until justice is served.

Let it be made clear:

If the Minister fails to act, he should be prepared to vacate office, as Nigerian students will no longer tolerate incompetence, neglect, and the destruction of our future.

CONCLUSION:
The continued closure of schools in the Federal Capital Territory is a direct threat to national development and a betrayal of public trust.

We call on the Honourable Minister to immediately retrace his steps and align his administration with the educational vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Anything short of this will be met with unprecedented resistance from Nigerian students.
