A Facebook page identified as “Daddy mummy family TV” posted a video claiming that Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), has been released from prison.
The video has generated over 6,000 likes, 500 comments, 900 shares. (Archived here).
The narrator in the video said, “All the Biafra in the world, breaking news, they have released our leader. Watch.”
Following the narrator’s comment, a news commentary from Channels TV could be heard reporting that Nnamdi Kanu had been granted bail.
The video has multiple display texts such as “Nnamdi Kanu released after meeting bail condition, Justice for Nnamdi Kanu, and Free Mazi Nnamdi Kanu”.

BACK STORY
On November 20, 2025, Kanu was sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted of terrorism.
Kanu was handed life imprisonment for counts 1, 4, 5, and 6 of the seven-count charges, and 20 years and five years imprisonment on counts 3 and 7, respectively.
James Omotosho, the trial judge, held that the prosecution had successfully established every allegation.
The IPOB leader is serving a jail term in Sokoto correctional centre.
In February, the IPOB leader appealed the judgement of the federal high court in Abuja that convicted him on terrorism charges.
Kanu asked the appellate court to quash his terrorism conviction and the sentence.
VERIFICATION
The Channel Television’s news commentary displayed in the Facebook video was published via YouTube on April 28, 2017.
The video was uploaded after Binta Nyako, a judge, granted N300 million bail to Kanu on April 25, 2017.
Nyako had asked the IPOB leader to produce three sureties, including a highly respected Jewish leader

VERDICT
The claim that Kanu had been released from prison is false. The video used to support the claim was from 2017.
