Don’t Arrest him, I’m Leaving, Injured 18-year-old Wife Pleads For Husband Despite Viral Abuse Videos

A video showing a visibly injured young woman, said to be an 18-year-old wife, has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with users calling for intervention over allegations of domestic abuse.

The video, shared on Monday by X user #Hybrid_Ola, showed the woman with what appeared to be injuries to her face as a man identified as her husband exchanged words with neighbours who confronted him over the alleged abuse.

In the footage, bystanders urged the man to leave the woman alone as he attempted to pull her towards him.

“Madam, leave my wife. You want to drag my wife with me,” the man was heard saying in the video.

Another voice accused him of repeatedly abusing the young woman, saying, “You want to kill her. This girl is just 18 years. This man is brainwashing her; he is beating her daily.”

A separate video later surfaced showing the woman at what appeared to be a hospital alongside human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu. During the clip, Gwamnishu spoke about plans to secure the man’s arrest, but the young woman pleaded against such action.

“Please, I am begging you, people. It will be as if it is my fault. The mother does not like me, please. Let me just carry myself and be going,” she said.

She added, “I am not going to the marriage again; you people should leave him. I won’t go to the marriage again; don’t arrest him.”

The videos triggered a wave of reactions online, with many users expressing concern for the woman’s safety and wellbeing while questioning her reluctance to pursue action against her husband.

Responding to X user #Updateboyx, who tagged the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, the agency stated: “We are on it. Thank you for tagging us.”

Several users called for official intervention. While #Kelly_kingz001 urged law enforcement authorities to take action, #CYCHINAKA condemned violence against spouses and called for a return to moral values.

Others expressed concern about the young woman’s condition. User #Memnefer wrote, “She is so scared. 18 years old and married shouldn’t be in the same sentence. Her parents failed her,” while #DeNiike_ remarked, “She looks disoriented… I hope she breaks free.”

Commenting on the video, #Cyberhijabitech questioned how an 18-year-old could be subjected to such treatment, arguing that “no man in his right sense will treat his wife bad.”

Similarly, #Franklin579003 said the footage left him disturbed and urged the young woman to leave the marriage, while #InyangBiet suggested authorities verify the circumstances surrounding the union, including the woman’s age.

Others focused on broader social issues. User #_makkiee linked the incident to the need for education and self-awareness among young women, arguing that women should be empowered to recognise and reject abusive relationships.

The development has renewed conversations on social media about domestic violence, the protection of young women in marriages, and the challenges authorities face when alleged victims appear unwilling to support legal action against their partners.
