GISTSMATE MEDIA reports that the Chairman of the National Population Commission. Dr Aminu Yussuf, is dead
Yussuf, an indigene of Niger state, died in Abuja early Friday after a brief illness.
His Principal Private Secretary, Alhaji Mohammed Sulaiman, confirmed his death to THISDAY in a telephone conversation.
He was aged 66 years.
Yussuf was only recently appointed the NPC National Chairman by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Born in Wushishi town of Niger state, the deceased was a prominent political figure in the politics of Niger state, serving as local government chairman and State Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party.
Prior to his appointment, he served as special adviser on political affairs to Abubakar Bello, former governor of Niger state, from 2019 to 2023.
He had also previously served as chairman of Wushishi LGA, a member of the Niger state house of assembly, and a board member of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) between 2005 and 2007.
He began his educational journey at LEA Primary School, Zungeru, and later attended Federal Government College, Odogbolu, Ogun state.
In 1983, he obtained his Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) from the College of Education, Minna, and proceeded to earn a B.Sc. (Ed) in biology from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, in 1988.
He proceeded to obtain a postgraduate diploma in public administration in 2001 and a master’s degree in international affairs and diplomacy from ABU in 2010.
His remains are expected to be interred in Minna, Niger state capital, after Islamic funeral prayers at the Minna Central Mosque.
