The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has redeployed 19 senior officers to key operational, command and training appointments as part of efforts to strengthen and consolidate the Nigerian Army’s capacity to tackle emerging security challenges across the country.
The Army spokesperson, Col. Apollonia Anele, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday.
According to the statement, the redeployment affects several senior officers in critical operational commands.
They include Maj.-Gen. WM Dangana, who has been appointed General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, Maj.-Gen. EI Okoro as GOC 6 Division and Land Component Commander of Joint Task Force Operation DELTA SAFE, Maj.-Gen. JR Lar as Commander, Army Headquarters Garrison, and Brig.-Gen. OM Oyekola as Acting Military Secretary (Army).
Anele said the Army Chief also redeployed other senior officers to strategic positions aimed at deepening operational leadership and enhancing force readiness.
Among them are Maj.-Gen. SA Emmanuel, appointed Commander of the Nigerian Army Space Command; Maj.-Gen. O. Adegbe as Director of Intelligence and Security at Defence Headquarters; Brig.-Gen. IB Buhari as Commander, Headquarters 63 Brigade; and Brig.-Gen. K. Rabiu as Commander, Headquarters 31 Artillery Brigade.
The statement further noted that the COAS injected new leadership into the Army’s training institutions to advance professional military education and institutional development.
Those affected include Maj.-Gen. KE Chigbu, appointed Deputy Commandant of the National Defence College; Maj.-Gen. SD Makolo as Commandant, Nigerian Army Armour School; Maj.-Gen. SO Adejimi as Commandant, Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport; Maj.-Gen. FS Etim as Chief of Training at Headquarters, Training and Doctrine Command, Nigerian Army (TRADOC NA); and Brig.-Gen. U. Ahmad as Commandant, Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria. GeographicReference
Other appointments include Maj.-Gen. KO Ukandu as Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Post Housing Development Limited (PHDL), while Maj.-Gen. AI Allison was appointed Managing Director of Defence Properties Limited.
The COAS charged the newly appointed officers to demonstrate exemplary leadership, professionalism, innovation and unwavering commitment to the Army’s constitutional mandate of defending Nigeria’s sovereignty, protecting its territorial integrity, and supporting civil authorities in maintaining peace and security across the nation.
