Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, has allegedly attacked the All Progressives Congress, APC House of Representatives candidate for the Ifelodun, Boripe and Odo-Otin Federal Constituency, Francis Eniade, barely two days before the Osun governorship election.
Eniade was reportedly attacked in Okuku, headquarters of Odo-Otin Local Government Area of the state.
Giving account of the incident on X, Alhaji Kowope Cole said the convoy of Eniade was waylaid while returning from Inisa by suspected thugs and security personnel attached to Hon. Egbedun, who were said to be travelling in a Lexus Jeep.
He furthered that, “sensing danger, Eniade increased his speed and headed to the Okuku Divisional Police Station for safety.
“However, Egbedun security details and suspected thugs invaded the police station, where Eniade’s driver was wounded and his Hilux and others were vehicle damaged”, the X user alleged.
Hours prior to the reported clash, Speaker Egbedun held a press conference in Osogbo announcing that his lawyers had submitted a formal petition to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.
The speaker Egbedun accused Eniade and APC Senator Francis Fadahunsi of using a viral video to threaten non-APC voters and explicitly target Egbedun’s life ahead of the weekend poll.
GISTSMATE MEDIA earlier reported that the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy and leader of the APC in Osun State, Adegboyega Oyetola, has accused members of the Accord Party of attacking APC supporters and subsequently portraying themselves as victims.
Oyetola made the allegation on Wednesday in Inisa, Odo-Otin Local Government Area, while addressing APC leaders, stakeholders and supporters during an interactive meeting ahead of the Osun State governorship election.
The former governor of Osun State also criticised the state government over what he described as the poor condition of roads across the state, despite substantial federal allocations accruing to the state over the past three years.
As at the time of filling this report, the Osun state police command is yet to react to the development.
