President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Prof. Segun Aina as the next Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), with the transition scheduled to take place after the tenure of the incumbent, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, ends on July 31, 2026.
The development was disclosed on Thursday in an official statement issued by the presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the Presidency, Aina will formally take over leadership of the examination body upon the completion of Oloyede’s second term in office.
Aina, a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, is recognised for his work in digital systems, examination technologies, and public sector innovation. He is also said to have accumulated extensive experience in ICT-driven reforms over the past decade and a half.
His academic background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing obtained from Loughborough University.
The statement added that Aina’s engagement with JAMB dates back to his National Youth Service year, after which he contributed to ICT and examination integrity projects involving bodies such as the National Examinations Council and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board.
At 39, he is regarded as one of the youngest professors in Computer Engineering in Nigeria and is projected to become the youngest person to occupy the position of JAMB registrar.
President Tinubu expressed optimism that Aina would build on the reforms of the outgoing registrar while advancing digital innovation and strengthening the operational capacity of the examination board.
