BREAKING: 20 Abducted Corps Members Regain Freedom

Twenty prospective National Youth Service Corps members and another person abducted along the Owerri-Onitsha Road in Imo State have regained their freedom.

The victims were kidnapped by gunmen while travelling along the highway, with the incident triggering security operations aimed at securing their release.

The freed victims have since been taken to the Department of State Services Hospital in Owerri for medical attention and necessary checks.

Their release comes days after the abduction, which had raised concerns over the safety of prospective corps members travelling to their places of deployment.

GISTSMATE MEDIA earlier reported that the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies have intensified search-and-rescue operations to secure their release.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade, alongside personnel of the Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force, Nigeria Police Force, DSS, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and local vigilantes, launched an offensive operation in Amakohia Forest at about 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3.
