BREAKING: 176 Victims Abducted In Kwara Regain Freedom

The Kwara State Government on Wednesday announced that victims abducted during the February 3, 2026, attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area had regained their freedom.

The development was announced on Wednesday in a post on the official Facebook page of the Kwara State Government, months after 176 victims were abducted.

The government wrote, โ€œAlihamdulillaah and kudos to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, security forces, and everyone who played a role in this huge feat. We are grateful!โ€

The victims were kidnapped when suspected Boko Haram-linked extremists invaded the rural communities of Woro and Nuku on motorcycles, launching a coordinated assault that reportedly lasted several hours.

The attack, regarded as one of the deadliest in Kwara Stateโ€™s history, reportedly claimed more than 200 lives, left several others injured, destroyed homes and businesses, and forced many residents to flee.

Although the exact number of those abducted remains unclear, reports estimated that about 170 women, children and other residents were taken away by the attackers.

In April, a video circulated on social media showing one of the abducted women appealing to the Kwara state government to intensify efforts to secure their release.

Speaking from captivity while surrounded by fellow victims, the woman said the group included pregnant women, young children and sick persons, urging the authorities to intervene without delay.

โ€œWe are from Woro in Kaiama local government. We were taken on February 3, and today is April 8. This is the last opportunity they have given us,โ€ she said.

Details surrounding the victimsโ€™ release, including whether any ransom was paid or the circumstances that led to their freedom, were not immediately disclosed.
