The Independent National Electoral Commission has opened its online recruitment portal for Nigerians seeking to serve as ad hoc staff during the 2027 general elections.
The temporary personnel will be recruited, trained and deployed to perform various election duties before being released after the exercise.
INEC is expected to deploy about 1.4 million ad hoc personnel across more than 176,000 polling units nationwide for the elections.
The recruited personnel will perform different assignments during the Presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled for January 16, 2027, as well as the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections scheduled for February 6, 2027, according to the timetable contained in the material.
In a public notice issued by the commission, INEC said the INEC Portal for Recruitment of Election Staff, known as INECPRES, would open at 8am on Friday, September 18, 2026, and remain open until midnight on Wednesday, November 18, 2026.
Interested applicants can access the recruitment through INEC’s official website, while the web version of the INECPRES platform is also available for registration.

Who Can Apply?
INEC stated that eligibility would depend on the position being sought, the applicant’s institution, employment status and educational qualification.
Those who may be eligible include serving NYSC members, former NYSC members who satisfy the specified conditions, students of Federal and State tertiary institutions, eligible Federal and State government employees, permanent staff of Ministries, Departments and Agencies, qualified INEC personnel, eligible ICT personnel and staff connected with institutions designated to host Registration Area Centres.
Prospective applicants are expected to study the specific requirements attached to their preferred positions before commencing the registration process.
Requirements For SPOs
The Supervisory Presiding Officer category is open to eligible personnel working in the Federal Public/Civil Service and Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
The recruitment notice lists public-sector workers on Grade Levels 10 to 14 among those who may qualify, subject to the relevant conditions.
Serving NYSC members are also included in the eligibility criteria, while former corps members may be considered if their service falls within the period stipulated by INEC.
The notice cites 2024, 2025 and 2026 as examples of years in which former corps members may have completed their service within the specified three-year period preceding the election.
Requirements For POs and APOs
The Presiding Officer and Assistant Presiding Officer categories include eligible students of tertiary institutions and some government employees.
Students of Federal and State tertiary institutions are listed among potential applicants, although the requirements differ depending on the applicant’s year of study.
Permanent employees of Federal and State MDAs who possess OND or NCE qualifications are also included, subject to the conditions attached to the relevant categories.
The notice specifies different salary-grade requirements, including GL 07-10 and GL 07-14, depending on the position and applicable category.
Applicants are therefore advised to establish that they meet the conditions before choosing a position.
Requirements for RAC Managers
The Registration Area Centre Manager category is associated with schools and other institutions selected to serve as Registration Area Centres or Super Registration Area Centres.
Under the stated requirements, the head of a school or an eligible staff member of an institution hosting an RAC may qualify, subject to the specified conditions.
The applicable requirement includes the relevant Grade Level 07 and above condition.
Requirements For RATECHs
RATECH refers to Registration Area Technical Support.
The category is intended for applicants with relevant information and communications technology or technical qualifications.
According to the recruitment notice, eligible INEC ICT personnel at the state and headquarters levels who are not engaged in other duties may apply.
IT students of Federal and State tertiary institutions are also included, while former corps members within the commission may be considered where they satisfy the applicable requirements.

8. Submit the completed application.
9. Keep their registration or application details for future reference.
Applicants are advised to provide accurate information during registration and confirm their eligibility before submitting their forms.
Application Deadline
The INECPRES recruitment portal opens at 8am on Friday, September 18, 2026.
The application window will close at 12 midnight on Wednesday, November 18, 2026.
INEC advised prospective applicants to complete their registration before the deadline instead of waiting until the final day of the exercise.

The commission stated that its IT Service Management operates a 24-hour helpdesk to attend to enquiries and challenges relating to the recruitment platform.
Applicants seeking assistance can use the 0700-CALL-INEC vanity number or contact the commission through the email address inecpress@inec.gov.ng.
The commission urged prospective applicants to use the official INEC website and INECPRES platform for the recruitment process and to carefully verify the requirements applicable to their preferred category.
