APC Wins Four Of Five By-elections As APM Wins One Seat In Bauchi

Candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have been declared winners in four of the five by-elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Gombe, Kano, Bauchi and Delta states.

The elections were held to fill one federal legislative seat in Gombe, while the remaining four were for state assembly seats across the three other states.

In Gombe, Kallamu MaiJama’a, the APC candidate, won the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye federal constituency by-election with 41,121 votes, while the Labour Party polled 3,553 votes and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) scored 872.

Husseini Datti, the ruling party’s candidate, also emerged victorious in the Dawakin Kudu state constituency by-election in Kano, polling 22,890 votes according to results announced by Ibrahim Suraj, INEC returning officer for the election.

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) scored 270 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had 108.

However, the two state constituency by-elections held in Bauchi took a slightly different turn.

Yakubu Ali, an APC candidate, was declared winner of the Disina state constituency poll with 5,846 votes, while the APM candidate scored 5,225 votes and the PRP had 3,701.

However, in Sakwa state constituency, Zaki LGA of the state, Adamu Yakubu, the APM candidate, won with 8,515 votes. The APC scored 3,771 votes, while the PDP had 2,076 and the PRP scored 727.

Reports indicate that the elections were largely peaceful across the four states, with timely logistics in many places.

However, there was reportedly low voter turnout in Gombe and Kano, while BVAS challenges marred the poll in Delta.

Meanwhile, the Bauchi state police command said its operatives arrested 47 suspects across some polling units in Shira LGA.

The suspects allegedly posed as members of a state-owned security outfit and were found with guns, cutlasses and sticks.
