APC Crisis Brewing In Akinyele: Outrage As Apex Committee List Sparks Controversy

A serious political storm is currently building within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akinyele Local Government, Oyo state, as concerned members, youths, and stakeholders raised alarm over what they described as gross irregularities and manipulation in the recently released Apex List.

What was expected to be a unifying structure has now turned into a source of tension, dissatisfaction, and growing mistrust among party faithful.

According to findings and complaints from within the party, the Apex List—meant to reflect credible leadership and individuals with recognized value at the state level—has instead exposed deep cracks in the system.

One of the most controversial issues is the unequal representation across wards.

Reports indicated that at least three wards were completely excluded, with no single representative on the list. In contrast, some wards were given multiple slots.

Even more troubling is the situation in Ward 8, where two individuals were included. While both individuals may be considered capable, the decision to allocate two slots to a single ward—especially when other wards remain unrepresented—raises serious concerns.

For fairness and balance, one position could have been allocated to another ward to ensure broader inclusion within the 10-member Apex/Exco structure. This imbalance has fueled allegations that the list was deliberately structured to favor certain interests.

Representation from Ward 8 should be limited to one leader on the Apex List to ensure fairness and allow other wards to be accommodated.

Every ward deserves inclusion in the Apex Committee structure, and no single ward should occupy multiple slots at the expense of others.

In addition, any leader currently sponsoring or presenting a candidate should not be included in the Apex List, in order to avoid conflicts of interest and prevent unnecessary internal party issues.

Another lingering issue is that loyal and experienced party stakeholders —those who have consistently contributed to the party’s growth—were allegedly sidelined without explanation. This has raised serious concerns about fairness and transparency.

Many members now believe the entire process was manipulated to serve predetermined political agendas, rather than to strengthen party unity.

“This is not how a structured political party should operate,” one concerned member stated. “You cannot ignore loyal stakeholders, exclude entire wards, and expect unity ahead of elections.”

The growing tension has sparked fears that, if not urgently addressed, the situation could weaken grassroots mobilization and affect the party’s chances in future elections.

Stakeholders are now calling on the APC State Executive Committee to immediately intervene, review the list, and ensure fairness, balance, and transparency in the process.

For many within Akinyele, the message is clear:
APC must choose between justice and manipulation, unity and division.

As the situation unfolds, all eyes remain on the party leadership and how quickly they will respond to what is rapidly becoming a full-blown internal crisis.
