Sheikh Abdulrahman Al-Sudais, President of Religious Affairs at the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophetโs Mosque in Madinah, has condemned repeated ballistic missile and drone attacks attributed to Yemenโs Houthi militia, warning that the security and sanctity of Islamโs holiest sites must never be violated.
Al-Sudais described the attacks as a deliberate assault on sacred places and the feelings of Muslims worldwide, insisting that the protection of the Two Holy Mosques remains a โred line that must not be breached.โ
In a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) on Sunday, Al-Sudais said the repeated attacks demonstrated what he described as the militiaโs criminal approach and malicious intentions towards Muslims and their sacred sites.
He said the attacks constituted a flagrant violation of Islamic Shariah, which requires the protection of sacred places, as well as international humanitarian norms.
His condemnation followed a fresh wave of missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia, with the Kingdomโs air defence systems intercepting ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles targeting several regions.
Saudi authorities reported that two ballistic missiles launched towards the Makkah and Madinah regions were intercepted on Saturday, while emergency response teams dealt with falling debris in several western localities.

Saudi military defences remained on high alert into Sunday as additional drones targeted the Riyadh region in the early hours of the morning.
Maj.-Gen. Turki Al-Maliki, spokesperson for the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen, said the drones were intercepted and destroyed.
Al-Maliki later announced that coalition air defences had also intercepted a ballistic missile launched towards Riyadh.
In subsequent updates, he said a cruise missile directed at Khamis Mushayt and 10 ballistic missiles targeting the southern region were also intercepted and destroyed.
Saudi Civil Defence issued precautionary alerts in parts of Jazan and Taif over potential aerial threats, but subsequently lifted the warnings.
The latest incidents followed a series of interceptions on Saturday involving missiles and a drone targeting different parts of the Kingdom.
Riyadh airport partially reopens
Despite the renewed security concerns, Saudi authorities proceeded with the partial reopening of King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Sunday.
Airport officials announced the resumption of limited operations, with Terminal 1 serving domestic flights and Terminal 2 handling international flights operated by national carriers.
Passengers were advised to confirm their flight schedules before travelling to the airport.
Al-Sudais commended Saudi Arabiaโs air defence readiness and the efforts of its leadership and armed forces to protect the Kingdom, particularly the Two Holy Mosques and pilgrims.
He said the attacks would not undermine the countryโs stability but would instead strengthen its resolve to defend its territory and safeguard the sanctity of Islamโs holiest sites.
The Two Holy Mosques in Makkah and Madinah hold exceptional religious significance for Muslims worldwide, attracting millions of worshippers and pilgrims annually for Hajj, Umrah and other acts of worship.
