Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has rejected claims that he entered into an electoral arrangement with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) before, during or after the August 15 governorship election.
Adeleke, in a statement posted on his verified X account on Tuesday, attributed his re-election to God and the support of Osun voters, while insisting that the ADC had no role in the campaign coalition that backed his bid.
The governor said it was necessary to set the record straight, noting that the ADC was not among the political groups that formed what he described as the “rainbow coalition” behind his campaign.
“I had no electoral deal or partnership with the ADC before, during, or after the governorship election,” Adeleke wrote.
He expressed appreciation to the political allies who supported his campaign, saying their efforts and sacrifices contributed significantly to his victory.
“For the sake of history, it is important to clarify that the ADC was never part of the rainbow coalition that canvassed, mobilised, and supported our campaign in the battle leading to last Saturday’s election,” he said.
Adeleke also praised members of his political coalition for their commitment during the election campaign.
He said his responsibilities now extend to all residents of the state, regardless of their political affiliation, religion or ethnic background.
“Now that the election is over, I remain the Governor of all Osun people, irrespective of political affiliation, religion, or tribe. My commitment is to unite our people and continue working for the progress and prosperity of Osun State,” he added.
The governor secured re-election in the keenly contested poll, defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and the ADC candidate, Najeem Salaam.
Adeleke polled 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji received 444,815 votes and Salaam recorded 17,180 votes.
The incumbent won 19 of Osun’s 30 local government areas, with Oyebamiji taking the remaining 11.
