Motorists can now buy cheaper petrol at NNPC stations across the country, after the federal government announced a 30-day discount on fuel sold by the national oil company.
The Finance Minister, Taiwo Oyedele announced on Thursday, that the discount applies only to NNPC stations, with priority for public transporters nationwide.
Here are five quick tips on how to get it and make the most of it.
1. Download the NNPC Fuel App Download and register on the NNPC Fuel App on Google Play and the Apple App Store. The app is the only way to get the discount.
2. Pay through the app at the station. The discount applies to every litre of petrol bought at participating NNPC Retail stations. Use the appโs station locator to find the nearest one.
The discount applies to every litre purchased through the app, and the appโs station locator can help motorists identify the nearest eligible station.

3. Buy before end of October 31. The NNPC said the discount, introduced on October 1 to mark Nigeriaโs 66th Independence Anniversary, will continue throughout October at its retail outlets nationwide. It will run throughout the month at NNPC Retail stations nationwide, giving motorists additional time to benefit from the price reduction.
4. Public transporters should register too. The federal government has said public transport operators will receive priority under the discount initiative. Because the offer is app-based, commercial drivers, transport unions and fleet operators will need to download and register on the NNPC Fuel App to access the benefit.
5. Check the pump price to calculate the saving. The N66 discount is deducted from the prevailing pump price on the day of purchase, rather than being a fixed nationwide price.
For example, NNPC stations in Abuja sold petrol at N1,370 per litre, while Lagos stations sold at N1,350; an app-paying customer would therefore pay N1,304 and N1,284 per litre respectively, before any further changes in the pump price.
NNPC has also stressed that the initiative is a customer relief measure, not a return of the petrol subsidy.
