President Bola Tinubu has said Nigerians should begin to pay less for transportation from October 2026.
The President made this known in a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to Tinubu, the Federal Government and state governors are working together to reduce transportation costs under the National Affordable Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Transit Programme.
Tinubu said he met with the governors of the 36 states on August 27, where they agreed to ensure that Nigerians begin to see a reduction in transport fares from October 1.
βFrom October 1, more Nigerians should begin to see measurable reductions in transportation costs,β the President said.

Tinubu said the committee, along with PI-CNG and electric vehicle stakeholders, state governments and other partners, was already working to identify major transport routes and determine the best interventions for each area.
He said the relevant agencies were also making arrangements to ensure that the programme delivers the expected benefits to Nigerians.
According to the President, the need to reduce transportation costs has become more urgent because of the current global energy crisis.
The National Affordable CNG Transit Programme is part of the governmentβs efforts to promote cheaper and cleaner transportation by increasing the use of compressed natural gas and other alternative energy sources.
