โ Says Initiative Will Ease Mobility Challenges and Boost Student Representation
The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Southwest Zone D, has commended Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for the distribution of electric motorbikes to student leaders across the state, describing the gesture as timely, student-friendly, and a reflection of the governorโs commitment to youth development.
In a statement issued on Friday and signed by the Zonal General Secretary, Comrade Ojetola Yusuf Babatunde, popularly known as Toyyem, the association said the donation would go a long way in addressing the mobility challenges faced by student leaders in the discharge of their duties.
According to NANS Zone D, student leaders in Oyo have for years grappled with transportation stress, especially with rising fuel costs and the recent ban on commercial motorcycles in some parts of campuses. The provision of electric motorbikes, the association noted, is a practical intervention that will enhance service delivery, representation, and engagement between student leadership and the government.
โWe, the student leaders of the Southwest, particularly in Oyo State, are deeply grateful to Governor Seyi Makinde for this benevolence. This is not just about giving us motorbikes. It is about a governor who understands the struggles of students and is willing to invest in solutions that make our work easier,โ the statement read.
Comrade Ojetola also used the opportunity to commend the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Makinde on Student Affairs, Hon. Victor Olojede, for his pro-student disposition and for facilitating the smooth distribution of the mobility items to beneficiaries across tertiary institutions in the state.
โHon. Victor Olojede has proven himself to be a true student advocate. His office has remained accessible and responsive to student issues. The facilitation of this distribution shows that the Makinde administration is serious about carrying students along,โ he added.
The NANS Zonal General Secretary further disclosed that his office was among the beneficiaries of the electric motorbike donation. He said the support would enable him and other leaders to move swiftly between campuses, attend meetings, and coordinate student activities without the usual financial and physical burden.
Reaffirming his loyalty Makinde-led administration, Comrade Ojetola described Governor Makinde as a โyouth-friendly and visionary leaderโ whose policies continue to prioritize education, youth empowerment, and inclusive governance.
He said his office is committed to supporting the governorโs aspiration for the presidency, stating that students across the Southwest recognize and appreciate leaders who invest in the future of young people.
โGovernor Makinde has shown that when you empower students, you are securing the future of the nation. As student leaders, we will continue to stand with this administration and mobilize support for its positive agenda, including the governorโs aspiration to serve Nigeria at a higher level,โ Ojetola stated.
The distribution of electric motorbikes is the latest in a series of student-focused interventions by the Oyo State Government under Governor Makinde, which also include scholarship support, distribution of union buses, infrastructural upgrades in tertiary institutions, and regular engagement with student bodies.
NANS Zone D called on other state governments in the Southwest to emulate the Oyo model, stressing that investing in student welfare is investing in national development.
