GISTSMATE MEDIA reports that Labour leader Andy Burnham has become the new British prime minister after a meeting with King Charles III, who asked him to form a new government.
Burnham’s appointment follows the formal resignation of Keir Starmer, who earlier declared “My work is done.”
“Andy Burnham has officially become the United Kingdom’s new prime minister”, Buckingham Palace confirmed on Monday.
The Labour leader arrived at the palace shortly after Keir Starmer formally tendered his resignation, and was asked by King Charles III to form a new government.
Starmer’s Final Address
Earlier in the day, Starmer delivered his final speech as prime minister outside 10 Downing Street, declaring: “My work is done.”
He wished Burnham “every success” and thanked Downing Street staff and his wife Victoria for their support.
The palace confirmed that the King had “graciously pleased to accept” Starmer’s resignation as Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury.
New Era Begins
Burnham is expected to arrive at 10 Downing Street later Monday to deliver his first address as prime minister.
The transition marks a new chapter for the country, with Burnham set to outline his government’s priorities in the coming days.
