A chieftain of the Labour Party, Abayomi Arabambi, has called on former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race, claiming he possesses documents alleging financial irregularities involving the former presidential candidate.
Arabambi made the remarks during an interview with Symfoni TV, where he said he intends to make the documents public through the television station so Nigerians can examine them ahead of the next general election.
According to him, the documents contain records that should be subjected to public scrutiny. He argued that Obi should suspend any plan to contest the 2027 presidential election under the proposed political platform until the allegations have been addressed.
The Labour Party chieftain further claimed that he had petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), urging the anti-graft agency to investigate what he described as questionable campaign accounts allegedly linked to Obi’s political activities.
Arabambi alleged that some bank accounts were opened with commercial banks without the knowledge or approval of certain Labour Party officials. He claimed that the party only became aware of the accounts after approval documents were reportedly requested for transactions involving them.Business & Productivity Software
He maintained that the accounts and related documents deserve a thorough investigation, adding that he had submitted materials to the EFCC which he believes support his allegations.
Arabambi also questioned the alleged involvement of some individuals connected to the accounts, claiming that key Labour Party officials, including National Chairman Julius Abure and the party’s secretary, were unaware of the banking arrangements at the time they were made.
Speaking during the interview, Arabambi said:
“I have more than 95% of corruption made by Peter Obi, and he must step aside from this presidential election because he only asked for 1%. But what I’m going to show Nigerians via your television station will be so alarming. They are facts, they are CTCs. I am not a baby.
“I have petitioned the EFCC because Obi will never escape; I petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, and these are the four accounts that must be investigated.”
As of the time of filing this report, Peter Obi has not publicly responded to the allegations. Likewise, the EFCC has not issued any statement confirming receipt of the petition or announcing the commencement of any investigation into the claims.
