Atiku Asks Tinubu To Suspend, Probe Gbajabiamila Over Alleged Bribery

Former Vice President of Nigeria and Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar has called President Bola Tinubu to probe his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila over alleged N400 million bribery allegations made against him by one Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi.

Atiku said this in a statement issued on his behalf by his media office on Tuesday while reacting to allegations of bribery by Adeyemi who has been promoting himself as the Director General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) against Gbajabiamila.

Adeyemi claimed that the establishment of PFICPC has the endorsement of the Chief of Staff to the President.

However, Gbajabimila had denied endorsing the establishment of PFIPC or appointing Adeyemi to head it in a statement issued about two weeks ago.

But Adeyemi had over the weekend insisted that the establishment of PFIPC was endorsed by the President’s Chief of Staff. He cited the fact that staff from the Federal Civil Service were seconded to the organisation.

Adeyemi also said there was monetary provision for the PFIPC in the 2026 budget.

Adeyemi who spoke at a press conference accused Gbajabiamila of receiving ₦400 million by proxy alongside demands for a 48 percent kickback from the agency’s ₦27.4 billion take-off grant.

He said he has paid ₦200 million out of the N400 million demanded through one Babatunde Tanimola who died in an Abuja hotel fire incident in October 2025 to Gbajabiamila.

“The major rationale behind the disagreement between myself and the Chief of Staff is because he allegedly requested 48 percent of the take-off grant from the same agency, which he denies, to which I rejected after he collected a total sum of 400 million by proxy, with a remaining balance of 200 million to secure the said appointment,” Adeyemi

Reacting to the controversies, Atiku asked Tinubu to suspend the Chief of Staff to ensure independent investigation into the bribery allegation.

He also faulted the claim by Gbajabiamila that the agency didn’t exist, saying: “how can you allocate N27.4 billion in the budget to a government agency that doesn’t exist without leaving more questions than answers.”

The ADC presidential candidate explained that the Chief of Staff’s claim only created more problems for the government.

According to him, allocating N27.4 billion to an agency that doesn’t exist puts questions marks on credibility of the entire 2026 national budget.

He added that the allegations should not be swept under the carpet.

“Good governance is based on transparency and accountability and you can’t achieve that by protecting your family and friends. President Tinubu must lead by example by holding his Chief of Staff to the same standards of accountability as other public officials.

‘N27 billion is not a joke. The rule of law must prevail in this issue. Let President Tinubu prove to Nigerians that he is sincerely committed to accountability in his administration,” he advised.
