90 Years Of Islamic Scholarship: Amin Centre Recognises Akure’s Grand Mufassir, Sheikh Moshood Raji Kewuyemi

One of Nigeria’s foremost Arabic institutions, Amin Arabic Training Centre, Iwo, Osun State, has celebrated its 90th anniversary with a three-day programme highlighting its enduring contributions to Islamic education and scholarship in the country.

The institution, founded by the late Islamic scholar, His Eminence, Sheikh Muhaliy Akanbi Badrudeen, popularly known as Baba Ile Amin, concluded the celebrations with a grand finale held on Sunday, June 28, 2026, attracting Islamic scholars, traditional rulers, government officials, alumni and other distinguished guests from across Nigeria.

One of the major highlights of the anniversary was the presentation of an Award of Excellence to the Grand Mufassir of Akure Land, Sheikh Moshood Raji Kewuyemi, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to Islamic scholarship, Qur’anic teaching and community development.

Sheikh Kewuyemi, an alumnus of Amin Arabic Training Centre, was honoured for his dedication to promoting Islamic knowledge and for his continued efforts in mentoring younger generations of scholars and students.

The award was presented by the paramount ruler of Iwo Kingdom, His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, Telu I, Oluwo of Iwoland, who commended the institution for producing scholars who have made significant impacts within and outside Nigeria.

The event also featured prayers, lectures and goodwill messages celebrating the institution’s nine decades of academic excellence, moral discipline and religious service.

Among the dignitaries in attendance were the Chief Imam of Iwoland, Dr. Abdulmu’min, the Senior Special Assistant on Islamic Affairs to the Osun State Government, who represented Governor Ademola Adeleke, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the forthcoming Osun State governorship election, Alhaji Oyebanji (Ambo).

Speakers at the event praised Amin Arabic Training Centre for its remarkable role in producing generations of Islamic scholars, clerics and community leaders who continue to contribute to religious education, peacebuilding and national development.

Founded over nine decades ago, the institution remains one of the most respected centres of Arabic and Islamic learning in southwestern Nigeria, with thousands of graduates serving in various capacities across the country and beyond.

The anniversary celebration also served as an opportunity to honour distinguished alumni and supporters whose commitment has helped preserve the vision of the institution’s founder while strengthening its legacy for future generations.
