GISTSMATE MEDIA reports that Adamawa State Commissioner for Agriculture, Professor David Jatau, is dead.
Humwashi Wonosikou, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.
Professor Jatau reportedly passed away in Abuja after a brief illness.
The deceased commissioner was said to have spearheaded several initiatives aimed at improving food security, boosting agricultural productivity and empowering farmers in the state.
The governor described the late Commissioner as a loyal and dedicated public officer who distinguished himself both as an academic of repute and as a committed public servant.
“Professor Jatau was a man of intellect, integrity, and service. He brought his wealth of knowledge from the ivory tower into government and deployed it diligently for the growth of our agricultural sector and the well-being of our people,” the governor said in a statement.
In another development, GISTSMATE MEDIA reported that the death toll from the three-storey building that collapsed in the Alakija area along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway has risen to nine following the conclusion of rescue operations.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency disclosed in a statement on Friday that 27 people were rescued alive from the rubble.
Our correspondent reported that the building collapsed at about 11:40 a.m. on Thursday, prompting an emergency response by rescue agencies.
The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, had earlier said a coordinated rescue operation was underway to locate and extricate victims trapped beneath the debris.
By about 5 p.m. on Thursday, the agency confirmed that eight bodies had been recovered while 26 people were rescued alive. READ MORE
