The Rivers State Police Command says its operatives recovered a Browning pistol concealed inside a loaf of bread during a stop-and-search operation in Port Harcourt.
Police spokesperson, ASP Blessing Agabe, said the weapon was discovered in a vehicle intercepted along Azikiwe Road near Red Cross Junction. The suspect, Braya Nanas, a resident of New Road, Borikiri, was arrested.
According to the police, the pistol had no visible serial number, raising concerns about its origin and intended use.
The suspect reportedly confessed that the firearm belonged to him, telling investigators he purchased it in Okrika for ₦800,000.
Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju said the recovery highlights the increasingly sophisticated methods criminal elements employ to conceal weapons from security operatives.
In another development, GISTSMATE MEDIA reports that the police command in Lagos has arrested a suspect, Samson Onilewaji, 21, found with body parts, firearms, and stolen items during a stop-and-search along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
The command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, said the suspect was intercepted in an unregistered commercial shuttle bus carrying six occupants.
She said a search of the vehicle and its occupants led to the recovery of a suspected human right hand, two locally made pistols, one live cartridge, two axes, a point-of-sale terminal, and five ATM cards from the suspect.
“During a search of the vehicle and its occupants, the suspect, identified as Samson Onilewaji, ‘M’, aged 21 years, was found in possession of a suspected human right hand, two locally made pistols, one live cartridge, two axes, one POS terminal machine, and five ATM cards,” a statement by the police command said on Friday.
