The National Association of Nigerian Students has confirmed the reinstatement of the suspended Students’ Union Government President of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, James Adio.
NANS President, Akinteye Babatunde, announced the development on Wednesday, describing it as the outcome of sustained engagement between the student body and the university authorities.
In a statement shared on his social media platform, Babatunde said Adio had officially resumed his position after the institution reviewed the disciplinary action taken against him.
The student leader noted that the decision followed a meeting of the university senate, which considered the matter after appeals from stakeholders and student representatives.
According to NANS, discussions with the management also led to relief for other students who had been affected by disciplinary measures, allowing them to continue their academic activities, including ongoing examinations.
Babatunde had earlier expressed confidence that the university would give Adio’s case fair consideration, stressing the need to balance disciplinary procedures with the student’s educational interests.
The controversy began after Adio and two other students were suspended over allegations bordering on the management of practical fees.
The action generated reactions from the national student body, which subsequently intervened and opened discussions with the institution’s management.
With the latest decision, the student union crisis appears to have been resolved, paving the way for normal union activities at the university.
