‘Israel Not Bound By Trump Agreement,’ Israeli Security Minister Rejects US-Iran Peace Deal

Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has publicly distanced his country from a peace agreement announced by United States President Donald Trump between Washington and Iran, declaring that Israel is not bound by the deal and must continue pursuing what he described as its security interests.

Ben-Gvir, a prominent far-right member of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, made the remarks in a post on X on Monday, after Trump announced that the United States and Iran had reached an agreement to end hostilities and reopen the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping.

“Trump’s agreement does not bind us. Israel is not subject to the United States, and we are an independent and sovereign nation,” Ben-Gvir wrote.

“Our duty is to the citizens of Israel, to the soldiers of the IDF, and to the Jewish people.”

The Israeli minister’s comments appeared to expose divisions within Israel over the implications of the agreement, which Trump described as a major diplomatic breakthrough capable of bringing “Peace and Security” to the Middle East.

GISTSMATE MEDIA earlier reported that Trump announced on Sunday that the United States and Iran had reached a peace deal that would immediately halt military operations between both countries and facilitate the reopening of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

The agreement was later confirmed by Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Kazem Gharibabadi, while Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also disclosed that negotiations had resulted in a permanent cessation of hostilities across multiple fronts, including Lebanon.

Trump said the deal would allow oil shipments to resume through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical maritime trade routes, after weeks of disruption caused by escalating military confrontations involving the United States, Israel and Iran.

However, Ben-Gvir argued that Israel’s security concerns remain unresolved and warned against what he described as yielding to international pressure.

“Every time we succumbed to international pressure at the expense of Israel’s security, we paid a blood price with interest,” he said, citing the Oslo Accords, the 2006 Lebanon agreement and previous ceasefire arrangements in Gaza.

The minister insisted that Israel should not compromise on its military objectives in Lebanon and rejected any arrangement that would leave Hezbollah intact.

“My position is clear: We are not partners to this agreement that does not ensure our security, and it does not bind us in any way,” he stated.

“We must not compromise on anything less than the dismantling of Hezbollah. We must not withdraw from any territory that our fighters have captured and cleared of terror infrastructure.”

Ben-Gvir further called for an aggressive military response to any future attacks originating from Lebanon, saying every drone, missile or rocket launched toward Israel should trigger immediate retaliatory strikes on Beirut’s southern suburb of Dahiya, a stronghold associated with Hezbollah.

“We must make it clear: Every launch of a drone, UAV, or missile toward Israel from Lebanon will lead to an Israeli strike in Dahiya,” he wrote.

While expressing appreciation for the United States and President Trump, Ben-Gvir maintained that Israel must retain full independence in determining its security policy.

“We love the USA and are grateful to President Trump. And yet, the State of Israel is not a banana republic,” he said.

The remarks are likely to intensify concerns over the durability of the newly announced peace agreement, particularly as tensions remain high between Israel and Hezbollah following months of cross-border hostilities.

The agreement had already faced uncertainty after Israel reportedly carried out an air raid on Beirut’s southern suburbs shortly before the announcement, raising fears that renewed fighting could undermine diplomatic efforts.

Ben-Gvir’s latest comments are expected to fuel debate within Israel and among international stakeholders over whether the Trump-brokered accord can survive opposition from influential figures within the Israeli government who continue to advocate a more confrontational military approach toward Iran and its regional allies.

Concluding his statement, Ben-Gvir invoked Jewish historical experiences and declared that Israel would not retreat in the face of its adversaries.

“The people of Israel is (sic) a people of 3,000 years, the eternal people that does not fear a long road,” he said.

“The days are over when the Jew took blows and kept silent. Never again.”
